About Us
Recognizing that service to the public as a professional engineer is a noble and worthy profession. Houston Engineers Week is dedicated to the promotion of the profession of engineering as a social and economic influence vital to the welfare of the community, the State of Texas, the United States of America, and all mankind.
Primary Objectives
The primary objectives of Houston Engineers week include: Advancement and promotion of professional, social, and economic interests of the profession; Continuing support of engineering education through scholastic competition and scholarship; Recognition and honoring of engineering achievement in Houston area; and, Advancement of the public’s knowledge of and appreciate for all fields of engineering.
Additional Objectives
Advancement and promotion of public welfare; Stimulation and development of professional concepts among all engineers; Development of the civic consciousness of members of the engineering profession; Service to the public good by support of and cooperation with local and other public officials; Representation of the engineering profession in civic matters in the interests of the profession; and Encouragement of high standards of ethical conduct and practice by members of the profession.
Annual Activities
The Run of π, typically held on Saturday, kicks off Houston Engineers Week with a fun run with 10k, 5k, and 1k(kids) options. The proceeds of the event are given via grants to schools with STEM programs.
The Young Engineers of the Year Reception, typically held on Monday, honors the Young Engineers of the Year that each participating Houston area engineering society names with a fun evening and awards presentation.
The Outstanding Engineering Student Award Luncheon, typically held on Tuesday, honors university students who have been chosen as outstanding students by their universities. A top junior and top senior student from each school is awarded a scholarship from the Houston Engineers Week Organization.
The Engineer of the Year Gala, typically held on Friday, honors the Houston Area Engineer of the Year chosen by their peers and past Engineers of the Year. The gala raises money for the scholarships awarded to university students.
